Charleston is hands down my favorite city next to New York. I just love the history, the architecture, the people, the food… everything about it is so charming. I recently spent a week in Charleston before my friend’s bachelorette party at a nearby beach community. 




Although I’ve only been twice, I’ve certainly seen a lot of Charleston and always overload my days there, not wanting to miss a thing. I just returned and already can’t wait to get back! Here are some of my favorite spots if you’re planning a trip, or just daydreaming about wandering around the cobblestone streets.

Stay

 

I’ve stayed at both The Mills House and The Vendue. I loved both hotels and recommend them for their amazing central locations, gorgeous designs, and true southern hospitality. They’re also both a super short walk to Husk, an A+ restaurant and one of my favorite bars in town. If you’re looking for a more intimate experience, I’ve heard wonderful things about the relatively new Zero George boutique hotel. I’m hoping to make Zero George my next hotel in Charleston!



Eat
Both of my times in Charleston have been culinary whirlwinds. There are so many must try restaurants in that town and I feel lucky to have packed in trying out most of them. Here are some of my favorite spots:
–Leon’s Oyster Shop– For a super cool vibe (it’s in an old auto body shop), plump oysters and the juiciest fried chicken.
–167 Raw– For a nautical Nantucket vibe in CHS. It’s tiny so get there early or be prepared to wait. The lobster roll is a must.
–The Ordinary– A gorgeous, sprawling restaurant with equally as good seafood.
–Butcher & Bee– A bright, cheery space with a menu featuring delicious mezze options, perfect for sharing.
–Hominy Grill– One of the most popular brunch spots in town. Get there early, there will be a wait!
–Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit– A great grab-and-go breakfast option. The biscuits truly melt in your mouth.

Drink
Some of my favorite spots to grab a drink in Charleston are:
–The Bar at Husk– Delicious craft cocktails and yummy small plates served in a really cool, historic setting. 
–Edmund’s Oast– If you’re a beer nerd, this is your spot.
–The Watch– A chic bar on the roof of The Restoration Hotel.



Do
One of my favorite things to do in Charleston is just wander around the cobblestone streets downtown and look at the historic homes. I never get tired of getting lost and discovering a new charming street or garden. Some other fun activities:
-Take a sightseeing carriage ride to learn a lot about Charleston’s history and stories behind some of the gorgeous homes.
-Shop along King Street, which is chock full of trendy boutiques, fun tourist shops, and great cafes
-Stop by Candlefish, a unique candle shop with a library of over 100 fragrances, right off King Street. I had so much fun learning about the collection and smelling so many great scents. The candles make for a great gift or souvenir (I bought two!). The store also offers candle making classes.
-Rent a car and drive out to a beach. Sullivan’s Island is a favorite (grab a burger at Poe’s Tavern if you go!)
-Visit a plantation. I love Boone Hall Plantation for the breathtaking Avenue of Oaks leading up to the house.
