The historic Mohonk Mountain House in the Hudson Valley region of New York has been on my radar for a long time. The resort grounds span 40,000 acres situated by Lake Mohonk and on the Shawangunk Ridge, near the Catskill Mountains. The hotel, which was founded in 1869, has a rich history hosting prominent people in American history, including presidents, industrialists and religious leaders. Mohonk is a member of the Historic Hotels in America list and was designated a National Historic Landmark. I’ve heard fabulous things about the resort and its stunning grounds, and was so excited to have the chance to visit as a day guest.
Mohonk Mountain House is a destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The resort offers 85 miles of hiking trails and a plethora of activities ranging from carriage rides to boating to snow sports in the winter. Mohonk also offers an award winning spa and mindfulness programs. In addition to hosting overnight guests, the resort has a day pass program that allows visitors to experience the Mohonk grounds, restaurant and activities for a day.
I visited the resort as a day pass guest in early November. In my opinion, fall is the perfect time to experience Mohonk as the foliage throughout the property turns gold, red and orange. I loved hiking the trails surrounding the resort and admiring the autumn colors. My favorite hike was an easy access trail from the resort that takes you up the ridge to look out over Lake Mohonk and the lodge. The view was so serene and colorful with the fall leaves.
After a hike and time spent sitting and admiring the gorgeous Lake Mohonk, I went into the lodge for brunch. Brunch at Mohonk is a big deal! The resort offers a sprawling buffet set in a beautiful dining room with windows overlooking the grounds. The food was delicious and the well trained staffmembers were incredibly helpful. There’s nothing quite like sipping your morning coffee and admiring a beautiful mountain view!
If you’re in the Hudson Valley region I highly recommend making arrangements to visit the Mohonk Mountain House. The resort offers activities that people of all ages can enjoy throughout every season. It’s important to plan ahead as visitors can’t drop into the resort, but you can easily find information on booking meals, activities or just planning a day hike on Mohonk’s website.
Special thanks to Mohonk for the gift of a day pass and brunch at the resort.
