Anguilla is a beautiful island in the Eastern Caribbean. It’s known for turquoise ocean water, friendly locals and laid back elegance. While Anguilla isn’t a large island, it’s only 16 miles long, it has many hotels for visitors to choose from. The top luxury resort on the island is The Four Seasons Anguilla.
The Four Seasons Anguilla is an elegant beach resort situated on the island’s west side. The resort is nestled between two beaches- Barnes Bay and Meads Bay. It’s a luxury, five star resort, but it doesn’t feel stuffy. There’s an understated elegance to it that’s very welcoming. While Anguilla is a beautiful island with a lot to do, you don’t need to leave The Four Season property to have fun. I love it when a hotel is so great you don’t need to leave!
About Anguilla
Anguilla is a British Territory located in the British West Indies in the Caribbean. It’s a small island that’s often overlooked by those not in the know. Those who have been to the island return year after year. Anguilla is known for its friendly locals, beautiful landscape and gorgeous beaches. In fact, there are 33 white sand beaches on Anguilla! An important coral reef surrounds the island, making Anguilla a great destination for divers and snorkelers.
Anguilla is definitely a high end island. You won’t find any cruise ships docking here and there are no casinos or high rise hotels. It’s a great destination for a honeymoon or a romantic getaway. But don’t let this exclusivity scare you; Anguilla is a very laid back and welcoming island.
To get to Anguilla, most people fly into the neighboring island of St. Maarten and take a short 20 minute ferry ride. Anguilla does have an airport, but it’s very small and primarily caters to private jets. The staff at The Four Seasons can arrive a ferry and taxi transfers for you, or you could book them for yourself online.
The Four Seasons Anguilla
The top luxury resort in Anguilla is The Four Seasons. The resort has so much to offer- two beaches, three pools, a modern fitness area and a top-notch spa. The Four Seasons also has four restaurants and a great in-room dining menu.
The Four Seasons Anguilla is a sprawling resort. There are 166 hotel rooms spread across the property, and each room has a balcony. Some even have plunge pools. In addition to standard hotel rooms, the property also offers suites and large villas.
The Four Seasons Anguilla- Accommodations
I visited The Four Seasons Anguilla with Taylor from Brown Eyed Flower Child. Taylor stayed in an ocean view studio room and I stayed in a one bedroom ocean view suite. Our rooms were right next to each other in their own area (A door off the main hallway led to a small hall that had a door to Taylor’s room and a door to my room). It’s a great set up for a large family, two couples, a group of friends, or any group of travelers who want to be close together but still have their separate space.
The one bedroom ocean view suite was a massive room with a kitchenette, a large living room and a spacious bedroom. One of my favorite things about this suite was the all marble bathroom. It was massive and one of the nicest hotel bathrooms I’ve ever experienced! The bathroom had a separate shower and soaking tub. Another highlight of the suite was a large balcony that had a plunge pool and overlooked the ocean. Check out Taylor’s review of The Four Seasons Anguilla for a look at her ocean view studio.
The Four Seasons Anguilla is running a special promotion now through August 31, 2021 called “Always Room for More.” If you book a one bedroom suite you get a studio room complimentary! It’s a great way to travel as a group but still have separate rooms.
If you’re looking for something larger than a standard hotel room or suite, you can stay at one of the resort’s 24 villas. The villas range in size up to five bedrooms! Some are oceanfront and even come with a private beach area. If you want to experience the ultimate luxury, the resort staff can arrange for a floating breakfast in your private villa pool!
The Four Seasons Anguilla- Dining
There are four dining options at The Four Seasons Anguilla that range from beachy casual to a swanky sushi spot ideal for sunset watching.
SALT is where breakfast is served. The menu is expansive and offers a bit of everything- from egg dishes, to pancakes, to fresh juice, to avocado toast. This is a gorgeous restaurant with beautiful ocean views. SALT also serves dinner, and that menu focuses on local and fresh seafood.
Half Shell Beach Bar is situated on the Barnes Bay beach, where the resort villas are located. It’s a great spot to grab a light lunch or a frozen beach cocktail. Taylor and I enjoyed lounging in the sun and sipping the delicious cocktails from Half Shell!
Bamboo Bar and Grill is a casual spot by the Bamboo pool that overlooks Meads Bay beach.
Sunset Lounge was my favorite restaurant at the resort. This sleek lounge is located off the hotel lobby and adjacent to the adult only sunset pool. It’s the ideal spot to catch the sunset! The menu is filled with fresh sushi items and unique hand crafted cocktails.
The Four Seasons Anguilla also has a robust in room dining program. The cool thing is that you order your food via a hotel app!
The Four Seasons- Amenities and Activities
Hang out at the beach– The Four Seasons Anguilla has two beaches for guests to enjoy, Meads Bay and Barnes Bay. Meads Bay is the activity beach and offers a variety of water sports equipment for guests to use, including snorkeling, stand up paddle boarding and kayaking. Barnes Bay is more secluded and is where Half Shell Beach Bar is located. Both beaches have incredibly soft sand and beautiful turquoise water.
Lounge by the pool– The resort has three pools for guests to enjoy. Each pool has its own unique ambiance. Sunset Pool is an adult only saltwater infinity pool. Sunset pool overlooks Barnes Bay. It’s beautiful to watch the waves roll in below the infinity pool! This is the ideal spot to catch the sunset. Aleta Pool is the main pool at the resort. It’s located in the center of the hotel and is surrounded by private cabanas that looks like the perfect place to relax. Bamboo Pool is a smaller pool that overlooks Meads Bay.
Enjoy the spa– The spa at The Four Seasons Anguilla is a great place to unwind with a salt scrub or a tranquility massage. The spa overlooks the beautiful blue ocean and it’s a gorgeous spot to relax.
Get active– There a lot of different ways to get active and break a sweat at The Four Seasons Anguilla. The resort offers a rock climbing wall, tennis courts (you can even take lessons), basketball courts, and fitness classes in the gym on property. If you’re interested in learning how to sail the resort can arrange boating or kitesurfing lessons.
Programs for children– This is a great resort for families with children. In addition to all of the activities for adults, the resort offers many programs for children. “Kids For All Seasons” is a program at the resort that gives parents a chance to relax alone. Under the watchful eye of staff members, children can play together and make new friends. The resort also offer a teen program for older children.
Visiting Anguilla and The Four Seasons Anguilla in 2021
As of January 2021, Anguilla is open to visitors from the US, but there are many precautions that must be taken for a safe visit. Anguilla requires visitors to take a rt-PCT test before travel and as soon as they arrive on the island. A quarantine is required while you wait for your on-island test results. Anguilla also has a two week quarantine in place. If you plan to be on the island for less than two weeks there’s a list of “bubble” activities that are approved. The bubble activities include certain restaurants and boating activities. The staff at The Four Seasons will gladly arrive taxis and reservations to approved bubble destinations.
Travlers to Anguilla must fill out an application to visit the country that includes submitting a negative rt-PCR test within 120 hours of departure.
As mentioned, most travelers to Anguilla arrive via St. Maarten. Anyone traveling through St. Maarten also has to submit an application to visit (even if you’re just passing through) and submit a negative rt-PCR test.
Once you arrive on Anguilla via the ferry from St. Maarten you are required to take another rt-PCR test. This was a very smooth process and occurred right after I walked off the ferry and before I cleared customs. After you take this test you will be given a wrist band and identifies you as a tourist who is within a two week quarantine.
You will also need to quarantine until your on-island test results come back. The test results come back quickly, generally within 6 to 8 hours, but they do say it could take up to 24 hours. During this quarantine period I stayed in my room at The Four Seasons. It was a lovely experience, and still felt like a great vacation! I was able to relax on the balcony, sit in the plunge pool and order room service. I took my on-island test at 2:00p and my results came back at 9:00p that night.
After I received my second negative test results I was free to walk around the resort and enjoy the bubble activities. Masks are required by both guests and staff members while walking around the property, but not while seated. I felt incredibly safe at the resort! It was nice peace of mind knowing that everyone else at the resort had just quarantined and received a negative rt-PCR test.
I felt incredibly safe traveling to Anguilla and staying at The Four Seasons Anguilla in January 2021. It’s clear that the island is taking every precaution necessary to keep it safe and comfortable for tourists and locals.
