I try to make my travel experiences as authentic as possible. One way I like to do this is through the accommodations I stay in. While doing research for a trip to the Puglia region of Italy I learned about masserias, which are farmhouses on large country estates that are typical in the area. Many of these old farmhouses are being reimagined and turned into lodging ranging from rustic inns to luxurious hotels. I knew I needed to stay in one, but I wanted it to have modern appointments and more of a luxury hotel vibe. I also wanted to ensure I was situated in a central location in Puglia. My research led me to Masseria Torre Maizza a newly revamped luxury property in Savelletri di Fasano.
Masseria Torre Maizza is a 16th century masseria turned into a luxury hotel that’s tucked into the Puglian countryside. It was recently bought and redone by Rocco Forte Hotels and they did a fabulous job! I loved the location of this hotel because it was very central to some of the top attractions in Puglia such as Bari, Alberobello and Monopoli. Puglia is a huge region and it was helpful to stay in such a central area.
To get to Masseria Torre Maizza you drive down a long winding road through olive groves and eventually arrive at a beautiful white building. Masseria Torre Maizza’s buildings are all whitewashed with olive green accents. It fits in perfectly with the bucolic environment! The hotel is completely open, so the buildings don’t connect. The grounds are gorgeous with gardens everywhere. Purple blooms climb up the white walls and roses sprout up all over. Puglia is a temperate Mediterranean climate that receives over 300 sunny days each year, so it’s really nice to walk outside amongst the flowers between check in, your room and the restaurant.
I stayed in a junior suite at the hotel and it was absolutely perfect. The hotel was decorated by Olga Polizzi and the furnishings are beautiful. The color palate is similar to the outside of the hotel with whites, greens and rattan. The bed was incredibly comfortable (honestly it was hard getting up in the morning because it was so comfortable!) and I loved the modern, huge bathroom.
Something that makes this hotel so special are all the extras. My room came with an outdoor terrace overlooking the gardens that was so lovely! The room also came with flip flops for the beach and the most luxurious bathrobes. The staff at Masseria Torre Maizza is A+ and they were very friendly and helpful with recommendations for Puglia. I also loved the nightly turndown service in our room.
The food and beverage service at the hotel was amazing. There is a beautiful restaurant with a lovely terrace overlooking a citrus grove. Breakfast at the hotel was the perfect way to start the day. They offer a full breakfast buffet (complete with a juicing station!) and also a menu you can order from. Everything tasted delicious and was beautifully presented.
There is so much to explore in Puglia, but you could have a fabulous vacation without ever leaving the hotel. Masseria Torre Maizza boasts a huge, gorgeous pool with a deck area that has very comfortable lounge chairs and a bar. It was a little too cool to swim, but I enjoyed spending time reading by the pool and drinking cocktails from the bar. One of my favorite things about the pool area is that you have to walk through a citrus grove to get there! It’s so charming. The hotel also has a spa that looks lovely but I did not get to experience it. There is also a 9-hole golf course on property and a nearby beach club; there’s something for every type of traveler.
If you’re traveling to Puglia and wondering where to stay in the expansive area, look no further than Masseria Torre Maizza. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy the beautiful landscape of Puglia while also experiencing a first class hotel stay.
I received a discounted stay from Masseria Torre Maizza in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
